Many of us view the use of diesel being only in the tractor or on a big rig. However the truth is diesel is used for many things. The smell, sound, and speed of most diesel vehicles are a big turn off for us in our society today. However the truth is diesel fuel is much cheaper then gas. The diesel vs. gas competition is one that has been debated for many years. The engines of diesel powered vehicles aren't as strong as gas engines this is true because gas engines provide more horsepower causing diesel engines to run slower.

However diesel engines have more torque then gas engines causing a flare in the debate that continues today.

Diesel vehicles are more expensive then gas vehicles and the parts are more expensive as well however the diesel vehicles are more reliable and less complex then the gas vehicle. There is a large difference in the price of fuel to run the two vehicles as well and overtime the price of gas spent on a gas vehicle and the price of diesel fuel spent will give you a huge marginal difference. The parts of the diesel vehicle are also heavier and tend to last longer than that on the gas vehicle.

The recent problems in the economy have been making many think again. Evaluating all options available to keep them running. The price of gas has spiked greatly in the last two years and shows no sign of slowing. Therefore many are looking to the diesel engine because the cost of the diesel fuel is much cheaper than that of gas and normally gives you more mileage.

Another big difference that will hinder the thoughts of the general public is appearance. Diesel engines are smelly and loud. They tend to let off a black smoke which not only can be embarrassing for the driver but make it difficult for those traveling behind them. The black smoke simply shows how dirty the fuel truly is. The diesel fuel is much dirtier than that of gas.

Diesel vehicles are harder to tune then a gas vehicle which means that it will cost more to keep them tuned-up. Diesel owners try to get more turbo when they are looking into a diesel vehicle instead of gas. When diesel vehicles are turbo charged they will beat out gas engines in terms of power. Most diesel vehicles now come turbo charged and allow the drivers to keep up with modern day engines.

Looking into the differences is important and depending on what you are looking for will determine what you should purchase. Diesel vehicles are a good option if you are looking for torque and power. Gas vehicles will give you more tuning choices and power.
