The Amazing Specs of the Porsche Carrera GT
By: Cargoyle
There are many race cars out there and one of the best unofficial cars built is the Porsche Carrera GT. It has a V10 engine and is made of carbon fiber, keeping the car fast and light. What makes this truly a race car is the fact that this car will set you back $440,000.00. The amount of technology, safety, and design specs has created a truly astounding and amazing vehicle.
This particular Porsche was introduced back in 2004. However, by 2005 there were changes already underway to make it the leader in the car industry as we know it today. The changes that were made increased stability, maneuverability, and performance. Many changes also make this car bit more street friendly, however with a high performance car like this, obeying the street rules will be difficult. Such as a glass screen between the bar hoops, the seats were adjusted, and the removable panels that you can store in the trunk making sure you have weather protection also. The car is very lightweight, with a sleek, low profile; this car is recognizable by its beautiful outside and inside.
A few other unique features are:
- A 5.7 liter, 605 horsepower V10 engine
- Monocoque chassis
- The Porsche patented engine and transmission that is made of a carbon reinforced plastic .
- A ceramic clutch that becomes more important than it sounds due to the fact that the car is able to do 205 mph. A ceramic clutch ensures safety and stability at these speeds.
- Race bred suspension that actually makes the Carrera GT more aerodynamic.
- Magnesium was used for the wheels and frame of the seats, a very lightweight material.
These speeds are due in part to the 5.5 liter, V10 engine that was originally made for racing. Developed in Weissach Germany, the bores are larger, they can displace 5.7 liters. There is also the fact that it is low to the ground, creating a low center of gravity, and the 68 degree V angle, 4 valves per cylinder head, and the block, crankshaft, ad camshafts are all made of alloys. The total engine weight is only 472 pounds.
Of course, the braking system needed to be as good for this Porsche as the rest of the car. The brakes are ceramic and have a 15 inch ventilated disc and 6 piston calipers, making sure this Porsche can stop as quickly as it can accelerate.
The Porsche Carrera GT is one of the most exotic, non racing, street cars available. From its high tech components and scientifically sound engineering, it is as amazing a car on the outside as on the inside. The weight alone makes the car stand out, being an extremely light and aerodynamic car, made for speed, performance, and safety.
